The Girls of All Hallow's Eve

As promised here are some more of the Autumn/ Halloween/ Samhain dolls in the shop now.
First off Lorelei a member of the Unseelie court, don't let her sweet expression fool you, she is devious at heart!

Next up a couple of little witches who really are as sweet as they look!

Of course there are a couple of bat pixies. Here's one...

And there are Fall pixies as well...

Happy Autumn to all!!

Something A Little Wicked

With Halloween just around the corner it must be time for another Ghastly Girl. Meet Mallorie and her dolly...

Mallorie doesn't remember much about her life before she met the Lady. It was a time of pain, hunger, and fear but most of it has thankfully faded over the centuries. She does know that, since she awakened in the Lady's arms to her new life, she's never been afraid or in pain and her hunger is very different and easily satisfied. Especially since she became the castle's chief rat catcher, they always had too many rats. Every night she roams the Lady's castle and its labyrinth of tunnels that connect it to the city with her beloved doll Dementia in tow, searching for vermin of all kinds and always on the lookout for other children that might need rescuing from their unhappy "lives".

There are also bat pixies, witches, fall fairies, and an Unseelie Fae in the shop. More photos to come!

The Summer Paradox

I have a strange concept of time during the summer months. On one hand the heat makes every day seem like an unending dose of sauna like oppression, but on the other hand I turn around and it's August already! How is that even possible? Timey wimey Paradox stuff indeed.

I've been busy making lots of commissions this summer and a few dolls for the shop as well. Here are some of the ones that have already gone to their new homes,

And here are a couple still in the shop...

Check out that tiny removable sweater on Miss Goldilocks! It was super fun to make!

And these two sweet girls are still waiting for their forever homes as well...

Precious Burden

It's hot outside! This year we've seemed to go straight from unseasonably cold to sticky hot all in a few weeks...Strange! But the onset of Summer inevitably brings out in me a desire to make mermaids. This year I decided to do something a little different. It of course involved designing new patterns and new ways of doing things which made the process take considerably longer...BUT...the end result is everything I could have wanted. I give you a mother and baby mermaid which I've titled...

Precious Burden

I love everything about this set! And I've made them so they can be hung on the wall as the art piece they are. Isn't it wonderful when things turn out just the way you planned!?

Little Gnomelings are Here at Last

The gnomelings have made it into the shop after waiting many days for the sun to shine so I could take photos. Meet Piper and Gemma! They've been out enjoying the beautiful weather and I can tell you they had a wonderful time!

They are sweet and a bit mischievous girls; made completely from natural materials like wool, mohair, and cotton, and so very ready to go on adventures with a willing companion. These are child friendly dolls but, because of the little button on their collar, not for those under 3.

WIP Wednesday - Spring Brings Out the Gnomelings

I've really been wanting to make some more Gnomelings lately, it's been several years since I've done any, but this time with more needlefelted faces. Here's a couple of the ones I made in the past...

and here are two heads I started on today. Still a ways to go and they look so odd before the skin goes on! Every feature has to be exaggerated in order to look normal when it's done...an interesting process and fun!

Miranda

Recently a new little fairy was born in the Nest. She 's definitely been an interesting character right from the very beginning. I had a specific idea about this new doll I was creating, but the doll had her own thoughts on the subject and made them very clear early in the process. First she told me her name is Miranda...

Miranda may be a very young fae but she already knows that when she grows up she wants to work in the court library, because she loves books more than just about anything! Their smell of ink and ages, the buttery softness of the old paper, the beautiful illustrations, and best of all, the wonderful adventures they take her in their pages.

She's also a very opinionated little fairy; besides books she likes cats, rainy days, radishes, stargazing, and rose hip tea. She does not like combs, asparagus, wearing pants, or having to go to bed...though the court librarian has frequently found her curled up and napping among the stacks.

Despite her many opinions...or maybe because of them...Miranda is a sweet little fae and lights up any room she's in with her happy smile. She can be found in my shop and she will be happy to come live with you...especially if you have lots of books!

The Cult of Doll Almanac at Last!

About a year ago I published this picture of a WIP doll.

At the time I couldn't say much because she was part of a project I was working on with a group of other doll artists but The Cult of Doll Almanac is now published and I can share the finished doll and her story at last!

Meet Murin, the Selkie's child.

Murin's full story is in The Almanac along with other gorgeous dolls and fabulous stories by some of my favorite dollmakers. It is such an honor to be included in this group! I do hope you go give it a look!

That Moment...

I love that moment when the face is finished and the doll comes to life in my hands. Pure magic.

Bunnies and Tea

Some bunnies have made their way into the shop...

They are all made from recycled felted wool sweaters and they all have little hand knit shawls.

Recently they've been out enjoying a little tea party in the lovely Spring weather we've been having.

Alice says, "A tea party? How lovely! But I think this cup may be a bit too big." Curiouser and curiouser..

Arabella and her Baby Dolls

Arabella is my newest Ghastly Girl and as you can see, she absolutely adores her little baby dolls. She dug them up all by herself one night in the old graveyard and now she cares for them so tenderly. She loves to take them for moonlight strolls in their lovely carriage, feed them bottles of nightshade tea, and tuck them tenderly into their coffins every morning.

I love making these dolls but the baby carriage and the little baby dolls made this project especially fun!

Clara

I made another 8" doll but this time a bunny along the lines of my white rabbit. Meet Clara, who, like me, is SO ready for Spring! Here she gazes wistfully at the bleak winter landscape, imagining the blooms and green that will soon (we hope!) be here.

Clara has a wire armature that allows her to be very pose-able. She also has glass eyes...I love these!

And how about these underclothes and painted boots!

Don't worry Clara, Spring is coming...
