Feeling Fall!

Three little babies sittin' in a tree...

It has been so lovely and cool here the past few days that I feel completely revitalized. All kinds of doll ideas are popping into my head...now if I can just find the time to make them! And so for your reading pleasure, and because this is after all my birth month, a couple of September poems...Enjoy!

Departing summer hath assumed
An aspect tenderly illumed,
The gentlest look of spring;
That calls from yonder leafy shade
Unfaded, yet prepared to fade,
A timely carolling.
- William Wordsworth, September

The goldenrod is yellow;
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.

The gentian's bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusky pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.

The sedges flaunt their harvest
In every meadow-nook;
And asters by the brookside
Make asters in the brook.

From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather,
And autumn's best of cheer.

- Helen Hunt Jackson , September

  6. Happy birth month, fellow librarian-in-retirement! My mom is a September baby, too. Thanks for posting the Jackson poem, as it was unfamilar to me.
