This is my first gift away, with only one prize actually, but you know I couldn't resist a chance to stick in an Alice quote. I decided to call it a gift away because I just didn't like "give away" for some reason, I'm quirky like that, but "gift away" immediately brought to my mind a picture of a brightly wrapped package with a red balloon attached, wafting its merry way across a starry sky. Can't you just see that? "Why are you giving away a doll", you might ask. And I would have to say..."I haven't the slightest idea." Thus giving me the chance to stick in yet another Wonderland quote. Fun, so far! But seriously it's because I wanted to say thank-you to all my wonderful blog readers, you fabulous folk who put up with my ramblings and Alice quotes and make lovely comments about my dolls. Thank-you so much, you all are the best!
So here's the prize, a sweet little Valentine Spice Girl made from natural materials and stuffed with lavender and flax seeds. She smells divine and she won't sing! Well, unless you make her dance and sing yourself...but that's strictly up to you. My dolls all seem to spend at least some time singing and dancing across my work table while they're being made..LaDeDaDeDa....but that's another story...
And here's my plan. I adore childrens' books and I love to create dolls of their wonderful characters, so to win this little dolly all you need to do is leave me a comment telling me what character from childrens' literature you'd like to see me make. Easy Peasy, right? Feel free to let me know about anything else you might like to see in the shop or here on the blog too. Tutorials of any sort you'd particularly like? Tell me about it! I know I'll love all the answers! You have until Feb. 10th to leave a comment and then I'll use a random number generator to choose a number and pick a winner. Make sure that if you do not have a blogger profile, that when you comment, you leave some way for me to contact you. Leave an email, link, DA account or perhaps convo me through my Etsy shop and let me know what you posted here. You must post on this blog to be counted...right down there where it says comments...okay?
So have fun and remember "Curtsey while you're thinking what to say. It saves time."-the Red Queen, Through the Looking Glass....yea I couldn't resist.

ReplyDeleteMary Mary Quite Contrary, from The Secret Garden.
ReplyDeleteI ADORE your dolly. And a gift-away is a wonderful phrase. You should copyright it and sell it, make millions. Otherwise I might steal it.
:0)
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?
ReplyDeleteExactly! That is why I choose Snow White! The dark hair and red lips and alibaster skin...she'd make a lovely doll :) Jen

ReplyDeleteThe minute I saw your post title, I was thinking of Alice. It's that record!
ReplyDeleteI'm torn, there's so many I'd like to see, and I'm really not expecting to be entered into your give-away, since I have the inside track on your dolls, so I'm going to list a few, just because I can, nyaah!
1)Sarah Carew, from A Little Princess, when she's wearing the too-short stuff (maybe a Becky doll too?)
2)Little Women dolls
3)Laura and Mary Ingalls
4)a Cheshire Cat doll (like one of those knit rabbits but with an embroidered face)
5)Miss Bianca
6)Nurse Matilda
Of course a line of Grimm's inspired dolls would be cool too, like the Goose Girl, Aschenputtel, or Rapunzel.
Should I shut up now and give someone else a chance?
Oh, that's such a cute doll. I'd love to see Ramona the Pest :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I want her!
ReplyDeleteI come from a house of boys and no girls so fairies and such are not common in my house LOL! So my first thought was actually Max from 'Where the Wild Things Are'.
ReplyDeleteshe is gorgeous:) I'd love to see something like ratty from Wind in the Willows, or flower fairies:)
ReplyDeleteShe is precious! My favorite duo-design would be a Snow White and Rose Red twin set. :)
ReplyDeleteHow very pretty she is! How about Merlin the Wizard (my favorite depiction is in "The Crystal Cave). Or, maybe a wood sprite or a leprechaun?
ReplyDeleteI have always adored your dolls. My favorites are "The Elves and the Shoemaker" and "Good Night Moon." I know you have made elves before but I just love that story. Perhaps a doll holding a beautiful full moon or something to that effect.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetie!!! Please put my name in the drawing!!
ReplyDeleteblessings,Flora
My favourite storybook character was always Sleeping Beauty. I would love to see her created as a doll! My next idea would be Thumbelina.

I am so glad I read about your blog on the Darkling Woods blog. I scrolled through your blog and love your work and appreciate your tutorials. I am a newbie to doll making and enjoy learning. Please come over and visit my blog for I am having a giveaway, too, under the One World One Heart banner. My blog address is judystreger.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteAs for a character for a doll, well, in my mind, there can only be one--Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.
Rats, someone else already went with rose red and snow white, but I'm with them, since that's one of the sets that's been eluding me when I sew!
ReplyDeleteIf modern lit is okay, I'd also love to see your take on Sophie from the BFG. (Or the girl in what do you do with a kangaroo! I loved that book so much my father had to reglue the spine with woodglue...)
I'd love to see Viole Beauregard from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. She always struck me as being an amazingly irritating character - but still very pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the doll :-))
Cynthia, you should consider doing more animal dolls...I really loved the bunny! Maybe a hedgehog or a squirrel? :0) O.K. animals are my favorite children's stories...currently we are reading the Redwall series and recently finished the Mistmantle series.
ReplyDeleteI hope I win! :0)
sweetpea from popeye!

Hansel and Gretel would be delicious!!! Please add me to your wonderful giveaway! Your dolls are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteDani @ The Pumpkinhaus
FaeCyn! Your little sweetheart dollie is super cute!
ReplyDeleteI would really like to see a series of seasonal dolls...have you ever read "Wild Child" or "Winter Waits" by Lynn Plourde...not sure if she has the other seasons done yet or not.
Another good book is "Child of Fairy, Child of Earth" by Jane Yolen...Those two children are too adorable!
And how about a set of 3 dolls "Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka" by Maj Lindman?
Oh, oh and one more...The girl in "The Son of the Sun and the Daughter of the Moon?" by Holly Young Huth is really beautiful.
Ok, I love The Paper Bag Princess. She probably wouldn't be a great doll, but I love the book. Also I love the book If You're Afraid of the Dark Remember the Night Rainbow. the guy on the front reminds me a little of, I think it's Wendell the cool doll that looks a little like a joker. Come see us! Barrie
ReplyDeleteHi, Cynthia!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited when I saw your "gift-away"! She is just too precious! It always amazes me how you can work so small.
So many lovely stories are listed, but my favorite of all time is "The Velveteen Rabbit". It is a story that teaches so much, and is my idea of "sacred literature" for children AND adults. I am 41 years old, and I still cry at the sadness and beauty of the story. I would love to see you make the little fairy that makes Bunny "REAL". She is the spirit of love and compassion, and you would do her justice.
Hugs, Bonnie...."Move down, move down, no room, no room!!"
Oh, how lovely!
ReplyDeleteI'm torn between Wart from Sword in the Stone (book, not watered down movie) and Gwinna from the book...well, Gwinna. I don't think it's a book many people know about or remember, but it's one of my most prized childhood memories that I still page through whenever the well of inspiration runs dry.
I can't just say one.....so I will say 3
ReplyDeleteRapunzel
Rumpelstiltskin
Mr. Tumnus
I like all of the above as well :)
There was this really great waldorf story painted in them most beautiful way and I can't remember the name of the book but it was about 2 girls born from roses I think. one blond and one brunet and a lion at the end.
I wish I could remember the name.....well any ....that would have been a good story to have dolls with.
Look at the little sweetie:)
ReplyDeleteLorna said she wanted a Dragon or dinosaur doll:)
Me, I would love to see Sleeping Beauty but as Briar Rose:)
What a cutie! I'm certain she would sing and dance quite frequently here in my studio with me and all of the other little friends. That's just what we do here.

i love you work and I am an ALice fan myself! I convo'd you my ideas

She is beyond darling! What a wonderful give away. I'd like to suggest "Little Sal" from Blueberries for Sal as a possible inspiration. My daughter looked like her once upon a time.
ReplyDeleteI love your beautiful dolls. They are really so special. Your work is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI think something along the lines of Tinkerbell would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI would treasure your gift away doll forever!
ReplyDeleteMaid Marion from Robin Hood and Glenda the good witch from Wizard of Oz. Just think of the gowns you could come up with!
i have 4 pregnant friends who all only have boys, so surely one of them will have a little girl that i could gift that to!?
ReplyDeleteanyway, it's probably been done a million times, but i love the little mushroom capped kids in "children of the forest" :)
I love your dolls! I'd love to see Pippi Longstocking! Mrs. Which, Mrs Who and Mrs. Whatsit from a Wrinkle in Time and Bilbo Baggins were some other favorite characters when I was little.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you make next!
I love all your doll's very much! If I want you to make a doll - please make one of - Sarah Kay - I love all their pictures of girls and boys.
ReplyDeleteMy most loved book was : "Herr Flupp und die sieben Entlein" it's a book about a man, who saved eggs from a little lake near his house and take them back to his house - after the ducks came out - he has to teach them how to eat and how to fly. And every time they go out, they take all of them around his big hat. at the end put them back to the lake...
oh i'm so glad i didn't miss your gift-away!
ReplyDeletei'd love to see Heidi and her Grandfather, Peter, Clara, the goats...probably the whole book, but i don't mind if you skip her aunt and Frau Rottenmeier(sp?)
thank you for the chance to win your little sweetie Cynthia :)
She is such a lovely little doll, thank you for offering her as a give-a-way. I love all the characters from Winnie the Pooh, animals and Christopher Robin too. Best, Ani
ReplyDeleteOoooh she is so cute.
ReplyDeleteI love so many childrens books. There are a set of English stories about 'Milly Molly Mandy' and her 'Little Friend Susan' which I grew up with and love. Also 'Charlie and Lola' who are current characters on UK TV and in books by Lauren Child. Fab!!
Oh! Lovely idea...
ReplyDeleteJust last night I read Maurice Sendak's 'Outside Over There' with my daughter. I adore the illustrations in that book, particularly when big sister Ida wraps herself up in her mama's yellow rain cloak. What a beautiful doll that image would make!
How about making "the little mermaid" - not the Disney version but more like in the original story.
ReplyDeleteThe little doll is so cute and the smell of lavender seems heavenly.
I'd love to see a Hitty doll! What a great idea for a giveaway. Yippee to the winner!! :o)
ReplyDeleteI think your beautiful talents would make lovely Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia or Matthias from the Redwall series dolls. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVED your wing tutorial...thanks so much and your little dolls are TO DIE FOR....sure would love to win one. bonnie
ReplyDeleteOhhhh.... choices choices.. so many characters - and strangely none come to mind that have not already been mentioned. Typical!
ReplyDeleteLet's see - Pippi Longstocking would be a fun one to see. Oh! Or even better, how about the day boy and the night girl?
Maybe a queen of hearts ??
ReplyDeletelove the blog!
Oh, I'd love to see your take on the princess from Princess and the pea...
ReplyDelete...darling littlevalentine spice girl, she reminds me of a very cute love bug that came to our house over the weekend! :) {she is darling btw}
